Mentor Program

OVERVIEW

The Alliance of Women Coaches is the premier organization dedicated to leading the field of women coaches at all levels, by providing support, resources, and unparalleled events and programs. Extensive research shows that mentoring programs have a positive impact on participants if the pairing is made intentionally. In a traditional 1-on-1 mentoring relationship, one person serves as the mentor, while the other person serves as the mentee. In an effort to retain women in coaching, we have created a middle level (silver) mentor/mentee. Coaches that have coached for 7-10 years are at a pivotal point in their career and statistically leave the profession at the highest rate. This development opportunity seeks to provide connections, networking and learning across sports. We remain committed to keeping women in coaching while fostering growth for coaches at all experience levels.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

In 2017-18 the Alliance of Women Coaches launched a first-ever mentor program with 48 participants. In 2018-19 the program will expand to 66 participants matched to form 22 mentoring trios. The program will offer individuals the opportunity to partner with our community of women coaches. Our mentorship model will feature three levels of mentors and mentees: gold mentor, silver mentor/mentee and bronze mentee. Review specific expectations below.

Participants in the mentor program can expect to:

  • Experience enhanced job satisfaction.
  • Develop better critical thinking skills by addressing challenges at all levels.
  • Grow their professional network across various sports and levels.
  • Be exposed to new and relevant ideas as well as reinforce successful, current practices.
  • Share leadership and management methods with both gold and bronze group members.
  • Empower future generations of coaches by creating a culture of empathy, positivity, and respect.
